Affiliate Terms Used, Glossary

Glossary

Here are the abbreviations and terms used in your affiliate business. The Glossary. It would be in your best interest to learn and understand what each of them are and what they mean if you don't already

Affiliate Agreement:::
This is an agreement between you and the merchant which states the terms and conditions of the affiliate program. Don't just check the box without reading. Know what it is your getting into, how you will be paid, etc.

Affiliate Link:::
A URL that the merchant gives that has your code in it. So that they know who sent the customer to them.

Associate or Associate Program:::
Same thing as an affiliate program. Amazon uses the term “Associates” for example.

Banner Ad:::
Well we know what those are. If you don't, just look at the bottom of this page at the Search Big Daddy search bar. (Their system is so knew and fast that they had it patented).

Charge Back:::
Now, 'there' is a nasty word. It means that the customer either had their credit card service reverse the charges on the order or that they canceled the order. No money in your pocket in other words.

Click Through Rate:::
This is a number represented mostly as a percentage which shows the number of times your ad was clicked on from the number of times your ad was viewed. Bout the same as conversion rate.

Commission:::
Now a good word. It is what you are paid if you make a sale. It can range anywhere from 5% to 100%. This is where reading the terms and conditions come into play.

Contextual Link or Text Link:::
The first is where several words or even a whole paragraph is used for linking to a URL or another page. It is usually part of the content itself. For example: On the home page of this site you seen SITE BUILD IT SITE SELL. Contextual. Whereas at the bottom of the page it says Page 2 . That is a text Link, also www.anyname.com is a text link.

Conversion Rate:::
The number of clicks to sales ratio. Such as: 3% out of 100 people (clicks) bought your product. So you had 3 people out of 100 buy or a 3% conversion rate. Oh, You already knew that. Sorry.

Cookies:::
Anyone who's been on the Internet knows what those are, Right? If you don't, It is a small script used to identify who you are to each individual web site.

Co-Branding:::
Some affiliate programs offer an option where you can put your name on the resellers web site sales page or the product itself. It's like where Westinghouse sells Sears their product and then Sears put their name on them to make it their own.

CPA:::
Cost per action, or cost per acquisition. Each time there is a sale, click or sign up, you get paid. Unless of course you are the one who placed the ad. Then you pay. An example would be Google adwords/Google adsense.

CPC:::
Cost per click. In Google, you bid on a key word and if you get it you place an ad using that key word. Then Google will place your ad in it's search engine and on other peoples sites who have signed up with Google. When some one clicks on your ad you pay for that click. This can cost you anywhere from 5 cents to, well I've seen it as high as $13.00. Thats per click whether they buy anything or not.

HTML or HTML code:::
When you get to building your own web sites, you should take the time to learn HTML. It stands for “hyper text markup language.

Joint Ventures:::
Now this you need to learn about. This is where two or more business persons get together and promote one of their products or services. You hook yourself up in a joint venture and your profits will skyrocket.

Opt-in:::
This you should already know about. It is where you sign up for a newsletter or email and join that persons list. Which is what you want YOUR customers to do. When you signed up for an email, you chose to be included. You Opt-in.

Partner Program:::
Same thing as as an affiliate program.

Referral Link:::
Same as an affiliate link.

Revenue Sharing Program:::
Again it is the same as above

SPAM:::
This you want to avoid like the plague. It is where your email is complained about by the receiver. It can get you into really deep trouble It is unsolicited commercial email. This is why I use an autoresponder and a double opt-in system. Cover your 6.

Super Affiliate:::
This is what you and I both want to strive for. It should be obvious what it means. It is where you are so good at what you do that you make boo-coo money for your self and your marketer.

URL:::
Uniform relay link. Think web site address.

There you have it. The Glossary. Now you are one smart cookie. Pun intended. This is the end of the glossary. If you have more to add, please do so where it says: "comments" and "rate" In order to add to the glossary. Not only will I appreciate it but so will the other visitors to this site. Pay it Forward. Add to the glossary.

In order to be SEO (Search Engine Optimization) compliant, I must add a text link for the keyy word; "glossary"; and this is it. Let this be a lesson to you. Always use a text link for your main (first) keyword to each of your pages. It ranks 9/10 on SEO on each web page.
